Medical lab technologists (bachelor’s degree) may perform more complex tests and may be specialized in particular area. They have more education and training. They also supervise lab technician. As for medical lab technicians, they perform general duties in all laboratory sections.

  • Analyze and evaluate the results of the tests for confirmation
  • Involve in quality controls and quality assurance procedure
  • Determine blood type for transfusions
  • Conduct medical research and analysis for further control and cure of diseases

Laboratory technologists may be specialized in:

  • Transfusion medicine – collect and perform test on blood for transfusion and preparing blood products
  • Hematology – study and evaluate blood cell morphology and their changes related to certain disease
  • Clinical chemistry – chemically analyzing blood and other body fluids such as urine and saliva
  • Clinical microbiology – study of microorganisms and identify antibiotic sensitivity
  • Immunology – study of immune systems in organisms
  • Histology – study of tissue and prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination
